2.3 Strategic Aims, Strategic Objectives and measures of achievement

The following Strategic Aims provide direction for the Company in continuing its journey towards its intended position as the 'world's most respected admissions organisation'.

Each of the Strategic Aims is supported by a series of Strategic Objectives, which translate the achievement of the Vision into actions.

Measures of achievement are also provided as a means of indicating the key areas by which progress against each of the Strategic Aims will be monitored.

Strategic Aim 1:

UCAS will develop and provide products and services which consistently meet the needs and exceed the expectations of customers and stakeholders

The following strategic objectives will support the achievement of this Aim:

1.1 Provide an enhanced experience for, and a longer-term relationship with, students and other applicants
1.2 Provide a customised service for member institutions to allow for a flexible menu of products, costs and method of delivery
1.3 Improve the relationship with, and services provided for, the international market
1.4 Enhance the quality of customer services
1.5 Promote and support environmental sustainability within the HE admissions process

Progress towards this Aim will be monitored against the following measures of achievement:

  • Levels of customer satisfaction
  • Levels of usage of products and services
  • Levels of by-passing of application systems
  • Levels of use of paper copy forms

Strategic Aim 2:

UCAS will have the speed, tools and attitudes to deliver flexible, high-quality products and services

The following strategic objectives will support the achievement of this Aim:

2.1 Develop an excellent, technologically-driven change and delivery capability
2.2 Enable our staff to take responsibility for their own and the Company's development and success

Progress towards this Aim will be monitored against the following measures of achievement:

  • Improvements in benchmarking against key IT measures and established good practice
  • Level of personal and professional development
  • Level of employee satisfaction

Strategic Aim 3:

UCAS will, through first-class management, ensure the security, quality and continuity of its products and services

The following strategic objectives will support the achievement of this Aim:

3.1 Ensure the Company maintains a sound financial position with funding available for new developments
3.2 Put in place structures and practices to facilitate a strategic approach to resource management
3.3 Invest in developments using the Company's core business as a catalyst
3.4 Ensure regular review of all processes, products and services to improve efficiencies and eliminate obsolescence
3.5 Develop a management system to maintain and enhance relationships with all stakeholders
3.6 Implement an information management system which facilitates the effective monitoring of the business environment and the efficient assimilation of the resulting gathered intelligence
3.7 Ensure that data held by the Company is of high quality and can be used in a flexible way to provide information and thereby underpin data-based products and services
3.8 Ensure management processes are in place to effectively promote and support environmental sustainability within the Company

Progress towards this Aim will be monitored against the following measures of achievement:

  • The Company's financial situation remains sound
  • Level of return on investment in new products and services
  • Level of the unit costs of processing applications and acceptances
  • Level of data consistency and integrity
  • The Company's environmental impact
