Each academic year, UCAS produces a first-class programme of conferences and events for HE professionals, teachers and careers advisers within schools and colleges, and those involved in admissions at HE institutions.
Events coming up are:
Routes for Success '09
Hotel Russell, London
Thursday 26 & Friday 27 February 2009
Routes for Success '09 is a two-day conference aimed at teachers and advisers at schools, sixth forms, further education colleges and guidance services.
In addition to current developments in qualifications and progression routes, the conference aims to address some of the broader issues of progression to HE, the utility of qualifications as predictors for success, fair admissions, the UCAS Tariff, admissions tests and structural changes to the admissions process.
The conference will be chaired by Mike Baker, Journalist and Broadcaster, and will provide:
- Authoritative and stimulating speakers to guide you through the maze of developments and give you the big picture of how it all fits together
- A view from Government on the future of the pre-HE curriculum developments and how they will affect progression to HE
- A view from Professor Michael Arthur, Diploma Champion and Vice Chancellor of the University of Leeds on the role of Diplomas and what they meant for HE
- An account of the changes to the admissions process by Andrea Robertson, Director of Customer and Applications Services, UCAS and a member of the Delivery Partnership Steering Group
- A lively panel session on the usefulness of qualifications as predictors of suitability for entry to HE and/or success on a course
- Challenging discussions on the topic 'Can admissions to HE ever be fair?'
- A wide choice of workshops led by experts covering admissions tests, Apply (with a focus on qualifications and unit grades), experiences to date of delivery of Level 3 Diplomas, Phase 4 Diplomas, References and Personal Statements, the new Adviser Track facility, the challenges, issues and benefits of group awards and overarching qualifications, the UCAS Tariff and subject-based workshops on entry to HE for law, psychology, art and design, medicine, business and English
- The opportunity to network, ask HE staff about their admissions policies, and foster relationships to assist the progression of your students to HE.
