Used by the members section of the website to keep a users browser session open on our server. Once the user logs out, or the session times out, the information in the cookie is no longer used.

Main

Used by the site to remember a mobile users decision to stay on the main site rather than be redirected to our mobile version of the site.

Used by the site to remember that users have agreed to use our site along with its associated cookies.

hideAdvert

Used by the site to remember a user's decision to close the mast head advert. Ensures the advert stays closed for the remainder of the session.

UCAS uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. Cookies are used on this shopping site to keep track of the contents of your shopping cart, to store delivery addresses if the address book is used and to store your details if you select the 'Remember Me' Option. They are also used after you have logged on as part of that process. If you turn off cookies, you will be unable to place orders or benefit from the other features that use cookies. Used by our FAQ faqtAgent system provided by Synthetix.
The purpose of 'cookievalue' is to ensure that the 'unique visitors' figure is correctly reported in the Synthetix Control Panel. Identifying that the customer has visited more than once ensures that the 'unique visitors' count should not be increased.
The cookie is not linked to other data it is just used for anonymous statistical recording.
This cookie holds two pieces of information, a randomly assigned customer ID and a randomly assigned session number.

It is a persistent cookie, and the lifespan of the cookie is one year.

Eventsforce

Eventsforce is the online booking system used for booking events – Eventsforce only uses session cookies. Eventsforce do not use any other other types of cookies or tracking cookies. The session cookies are deleted by the browser when the browser is closed and are only used to maintain session information between Eventsforce pages. These are cookies that would fall under the 'strictly necessary' exemption for consent in the regulations.

What is a session cookie?
A session cookie is a cookie that is erased when you close the web browser. The session cookie is stored in temporary memory and is not retained after the browser is closed. Session cookies do not collect information from your computer.

 

4. Local Shared Objects (Flash Cookies)

UCAS uses the Adobe Flash Player to deliver its video content services throughout the site. To improve user experience, Local Shared Objects – or Flash Cookies as they are commonly known – are employed to remember the user's selected volume level and the user's age, for age restriction purposes. Flash Cookies are stored on a user's computer in much the same way as cookies. However, it is not possible to manage them at browser level in the same way.
