Clearing

An outline of the Clearing process

Clearing gives unplaced applicants a final opportunity to gain a place. We publish vacancy information on our website in August along with contact details for each institution.

Applicants consult vacancy information and contact you direct. You make offers direct to applicants and they reply to you. The Clearing Passport shows their name, address, application number, Personal ID and Clearing Number and has a perforated slip at the bottom for you to take when a place is offered and accepted. It is watermarked so that photocopies of the Clearing Passport can be detected. We remind applicants not to contact you until they have their examination results and to consult you before sending the Passport to you. Sending the Clearing Passport to you implies some commitment by the applicant and a serious interest on your part.

Clearing - action by you

Ask for the Clearing Number straight away to establish eligibility. Only ask for the Clearing Passport if you have offered a place and the applicant has accepted it. Other than establishing eligibility, there is no information on the Clearing Passport that will help you make a decision about offering a place. You notify applicants direct of decisions and tell us when the place has been accepted. If you lose the Clearing Passport, contact us. Never delay the application unnecessarily.

Clearing and us

You can see the application details of Clearing applicants on web-link. You can also use the print facility to get a paper copy. When we are notified of a place made in Clearing, we update the record and send the successful applicant an AS12 letter.

Clearing vacancy information

We ask you both to provide us with vacancy information and to keep it updated. We provide full instructions at the time and allocate keywords for each course, which determine the headings it appears beneath in vacancy information.
