What are the responsibilities of Access to HE course providers?

An Access to HE programme becomes QAA-recognised when it has been validated by a licensed Authorised Validating Agency (AVA), according to procedures approved by QAA. Once a programme has been recognised, a provider may recommend students to the AVA for the award of the Access to HE qualification. A provider has several responsibilities, which include:

  • design and structure of Access to HE courses, with reference to the AVA's guidance and regulations.
  • information, advice and guidance to Access to HE students and prospective students.
  • the quality of teaching and learning on Access to HE courses.
  • student assessment, according to methods approved at course validation.
  • maintaining records of evidence of student achievement for the award of the Access to HE certificate.
  • evaluation and review of Access to HE programmes, including consideration of student feedback, and presentation of information and statistical data, as required by the AVA.
