Our daughter has suddenly started mentioning that she'd like to study in another country. Where can we get some pointers?

If your daughter is serious about studying outside of the UK, the first step is to narrow down her choices and decide where she would like to go. For the USA, a good place to start is the Fulbright Commission. For Ireland, go to the Central Applications Office at www.cao.ie. Another useful lead is the Association of Commonwealth Universities - tel 020 7380 6700.

The embassies of other countries will usually be happy to provide guidance. There are also lots of courses and exchange schemes in this country that offer opportunities to study abroad. Individual universities and colleges will be able to inform your daughter about these. She will need to check that the qualifications she gains will be relevant to any work that she hopes to do after graduating.
