Can my previous learning, work or voluntary experience be taken into account in the achievement of the Access to HE qualification?

Yes. Previous learning or work experience can be taken into account through a process known as the Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL). This is available on many Access to HE courses, and you should discuss whether it will be a possibility for you in your early discussions with staff on the Access to HE course.

The process varies, according to the kind of previous learning or experience that you are offering, but you would probably be expected to present a portfolio of evidence, which is then assessed by the Access to HE course tutor. The APL process can take some time and may include a charge, but the outcome can often result in exemption from some parts of the course.
