Statistical releases produced on 9 August and then each week day between 18 August – 2 September 2016, providing core numbers for the current cycle, comparison data over five cycles, and graphical illustrations of key trends.

From A level results day, there are nine categories of public reports per day: overview, country, age, subject, sex, region, POLAR3, SIMD, and Tariff group.

In Scotland, there is a substantial section of provision that is not included in UCAS' figures. This is mostly full-time higher education provided in further education colleges, which represents around one third of young, full-time undergraduate study in Scotland. This proportion varies by geography and background in Scotland. Accordingly, the statistics on UCAS acceptances in these data resources reflect only that majority of full-time undergraduate study that uses UCAS.

From the 2015 cycle onwards, applications to postgraduate teacher training programmes in Scotland were included in the UCAS Undergraduate admissions scheme. Previously, these were recruited through UCAS Teacher Training. In 2015, around 120 courses at providers in Scotland moved into the UCAS Undergraduate scheme, estimated to represent around 2,000 acceptances, mostly aged 21 or over. Comparisons between 2016 and 2014 (or earlier cycles) will be affected by this change.

Compared to 2015, both SQA results day and A level results day are five days later in 2016. This could mean that the numbers of placed applicants reported in the daily Clearing analysis are greater than in previous years, for applicants whose main qualification may have been awarded before these results days.

Further details of the scope of UCAS Undergraduate data (234.46 KB) is available.

The Daily Clearing analysis 2016 technical note (323.21 KB) explains the definitions used in the report.
