What difficulties were you facing before this project? What were you hoping the Leaky Hosepipe solution would solve?
We were going through a lot of institutional change and wanted to use this product as a way to support the embedding of that change. We wanted to become more aligned across teams and use the data to set targets and guide the team during this organisational change. We were hoping to assign objectives by identifying gaps and prioritising where we could make impact.
Were you surprised by the findings?
No, we weren’t surprised, however there were some big numbers to action, and this allowed us to highlight to other parts of the organisation that were more surprised, in order to bridge the gaps.
Please explain what impact there was, if you saw attributable impact on numbers, please share if you are happy to.
It’s too soon to tell the full impact on this cycle, however we have digested the numbers and are using them to guide targets for this cycle. We have overlayed 2020 and 2021 numbers, and mapped out targets, accordingly, tracking week on week and this is so far proving successful having already hit 2021 targets.
Would you recommend the solution to another provider?
Yes, we would, however I’d advise them to be prepared to take a stark look at their institution and at some potentially big gaps that need focus. It’s very interesting through competitor insight.

What difficulties were you facing before this project? What were you hoping the Leaky Hosepipe solution would solve?
We are keen to base all our plans and activities on data and evidence and we saw the Leaky Hosepipe as a really good way to understand the impact of all our activities through the entire recruitment cycle and where we could do more to plug any leaks. We were attracted by the Leaky Hosepipe analysis as it provided a holistic approach to the entire student recruitment cycle from initial enquirer to enrolled student and it’s rare that you have a product that can deliver insight across the whole cycle in such a focused way.
Were you surprised by the findings?
We were pleasantly surprised that our hosepipe was relatively healthy, and this was really good news for the team as we have spent a lot of time working on each aspect. It was also good to see benchmarks against competitors. The main value was in seeing where to put our effort especially with budgets and resources being tight. For example, we know we get a high level of satisfaction from our Open Days so this helped us to see that rather than continue to enhance these we should instead focus on the conversion of registrants to attendees at our Open Days.

It’s early days so we haven’t been able to implement too much however, the report we received, and the great 2-day workshop provided plenty of insight that we have used to enhance our plans. It has given a focus to the team and very clear areas to work on with clear kpis.
Would you recommend the solution to another provider?
Yes I would.
