If you want to go beyond theory and learn how to build and deploy AI systems in real-world environments, our MSc Artificial Intelligence (AI) Engineering will equip you with the skills to design, develop and manage intelligent technologies at scale.
This programme focuses on the practical engineering of AI systems, combining core knowledge of artificial intelligence with the skills needed to implement, deploy and maintain AI solutions. You will explore how AI is used in real-world contexts, and develop an understanding of how to design reliable, scalable and responsible systems.
You will gain experience in areas such as machine learning, cloud-based AI, and the integration of AI into software systems. The programme also introduces emerging approaches such as agentic systems and prompt and context engineering, alongside an understanding of governance, ethics and responsible AI practice.
As you progress, you will develop your ability to work across the full lifecycle of AI systems, from design and development through to deployment and evaluation. You will apply your knowledge to practical challenges, preparing you for roles in industries where AI is increasingly embedded in products, services and infrastructure.
The programme prepares you for careers in AI engineering, machine learning engineering and related roles, as well as further study or research in artificial intelligence and computing.
You will learn through a combination of lectures, seminars, workshops and practical laboratory sessions, where you will develop both theoretical understanding and hands-on technical skills. There is a strong emphasis on applying your learning to real-world problems, including programming tasks, system design activities and project work.
Teaching is designed to help you build both foundational knowledge and practical expertise in AI engineering. You will explore key concepts in artificial intelligence and machine learning alongside approaches to deploying and managing AI systems in real-world environments.
Throughout the programme, you will develop your ability to design, implement and evaluate AI systems, working with modern tools and platforms including cloud-based technologies. You will gain experience in areas such as data-driven systems, AI integration and lifecycle management.
A major component of the programme is the dissertation or project, where you will apply your knowledge to a substantial, independent piece of work. This allows you to explore a specialist area of interest and demonstrate your technical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
2:2 or above in computer science, computer engineering, informatics or other computer-related subjects (including engineering and management disciplines such as finance, economics, business studies etc) from an approved degree-awarding body.
Candidates who do not fulfil the normal entry requirements but have extensive industrial experience in a related area are considered on an individual basis.
English language requirements Minimum IELTS 6.0 or equivalent, with at least 5.5 in each subtest or GCSE English Language at grade C/4.
