This degree brings together academic study and hands-on learning, giving you the knowledge, skills, and real-world experience to succeed in sport, exercise, and fitness. You’ll get access to cutting-edge science-based technologies and equipment in our labs, where you’ll build the confidence to assess people’s needs and design strategies that improve performance. Along the way, you’ll explore key areas such as psychology, physiology, nutrition, performance analysis, and health.

With communication at the heart of this - you’ll sharpen your ability to engage with athletes, clients, and teams in a variety of real-life situations. Whether it’s delivering a team talk before a competition, giving instant technical feedback, or leading a one-to-one fitness consultation, you’ll learn how to adapt your style to get the best results.
By the end of the course, you’ll graduate with the skills, confidence, and adaptability to thrive in a wide range of careers in sport, health, and wellbeing, or to take your studies further if you choose.

Assessment method
The assessments within the programme have been designed to emulate the requirements of employment in the sports industry and to assess students' competence in the coaching the skills needed for practical delivery and planning. The assessment process has been an essential element of the programme design, which aims for students to demonstrate industry required competence in practical sessions, yet the academic dexterity to formulate, research and problem solve in a written or verbal manner.
Qualified teacher status (QTS)
To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:

Qualification requirements
UCAS Tariff - 48 points
48 UCAS tariff points from two A-levels (or equivalent qualifications).
English Language Grade 4 or above. Key Skills Level 2, Functional Skills Level 2 and the Certificate in Adult Literacy are accepted in place of GCSEs.
Maths Grade 4 or above. Key Skills Level 2, Functional Skills Level 2 and the Certificate in Adult Numeracy are accepted in place of GCSEs
International qualifications: International qualifications will be assessed against these criteria
IELTS: IELTS 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in any component.
Mature applicants: University Centre Leeds welcomes applications from mature* applicants who may not have met the academic criteria, but who can demonstrate a wealth of experience in their chosen field. Candidates in this category and otherwise are likely to be interviewed to assess their suitability for the course and may be asked to provide a portfolio of evidence to support their application.

Additional fee information
Fees are charged per academic year.
There is an additional cost of £200 in the first year of the course to cover the required student kit. As we recognise the cost of the kit may be a lot of money to pay upfront at the start of your course, we have made arrangements for this to be included in your tuition fee loan from Student Finance England, which would mean that your loan would be for £9,200.
