Have you ever considered how English is used globally? Do you have a particular interest in how languages are learned and taught? Do you have ambitions to travel and teach? If so, our exciting BA in English Language and Teaching could be the ideal course for you.
Our English Language and Teaching programme immerses you in the fascinating study of English, from how it developed from humble origins to the global language with all its variations that we use today, to how it is learned by children as a first language or by learners of English as a second or further language - and much more.
You will explore questions about language structures and language use in society, language disorders, and language acquisition and you will learn practical methods - and get hands-on experience - of how to teach it. Crucially, you will develop skills and knowledge to help you gain employment or pursue further studies for work or research in linguistics, education, and language teaching, and a range of other relevant fields.
To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:

If you’ve recently completed or studied modules as part of a previous qualification, you may be eligible to apply for Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL). Entry to all years except Year 1 will require APL. Once you have submitted an application for the programme, you will need to complete the relevant paperwork for APL as well.
