You’ll learn how to design and build infrastructure like bridges, road links and buildings. Protect our communities from the impact of climate change with adaptive and resilient engineering, and become a leader in the industry. Broaden your horizons studying civil engineering in Birmingham and overseas.
Develop your analytical, technical and decision-making skills to tackle civil engineering challenges. You’ll be able to apply what you’ve learned in our practical facilities. Work alongside students from other engineering disciplines, so you graduate with interdisciplinary experience.
Spend a year studying abroad at an English or foreign language speaking university. In your final year, deepen your specialist knowledge with a project that can be linked to industry.

Qualification requirements
UCAS Tariff - Not accepted
A level - AAA
A level Mathematics required.
General Studies or Critical Thinking not accepted. However, a good performance in one of these may be taken into account if you fail to meet the conditions of the offer.
Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016)
Not considered unless A level Maths also taken.
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 32 points
6,6,6 at Higher Level to include Mathematics with a minimum of 32 points overall.
Welsh Baccalaureate - Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate (last awarded Summer 2024)
Accepted in place of a non-required A level with the equivalent grade.
Cambridge International Pre-U Certificate - Principal
Accepted in place of A levels with the following grade equivalencies: D2 = A*; D3 = A; M2 = B. Combinations of A levels and Principle subjects are accepted. NB required subjects must be offered (see A level Section)
