Course summary

Top 10 in the UK for graduate prospects in the subject area of Paramedic Science
(Complete University Guide 2026)

Study a health foundation year and learn the key concepts and principles in health and social care to complete a full Honours degree. You'll be able to begin this qualification without meeting the level 3 entry requirements, gaining the essential skills required to succeed in degree-level education.

You can then qualify to be the first on the scene to assess, treat, and support patients in emergencies with our BSc (Hons) Paramedic Science at Canterbury Christ Church University.

This exciting and challenging course will equip you with the knowledge and skills to become a safe, competent, and autonomous paramedic, ready to respond to the diverse demands of modern healthcare.

What you'll learn

  • Assess and respond to patients in emergency and urgent care situations.

  • Apply evidence-based clinical skills in real-world healthcare settings.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across ambulance and community care.

  • Develop critical decision-making, leadership, and professional judgement.

  • Prepare for HCPC registration and a career as a qualified paramedic.

Clinical experience is central to your learning, with around 50% of your time spent on placements in both ambulance and non-ambulance care.

You’ll develop hands-on expertise, applying theory in real-world settings and learning alongside experienced professionals. Strong partnerships with South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SECAmb) ensure you gain exposure to a wide range of emergency and non-emergency patient care scenarios.

From developing your practical skills in our clinical simulation suites to being the first on the scene and assessing a patient's conditions, you'll be exposed to many different situations and will care for people in emergency and non-emergency situations.

On successful completion, you'll be eligible to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), opening doors to a rewarding career in paramedic practice.
