About the course
Sustainable Engineering and Technology Foundation Studies: Certificate of Higher Education is a one year programme designed to prepare you for undergraduate study or a career in engineering and the built environment. It provides a supportive introduction to the principles of sustainable engineering and construction while strengthening your academic skills.
This course is ideal if you do not yet meet the entry requirements for direct entry onto a degree. You will build confidence in your study skills while developing an understanding of design, construction, sustainability and professional practice within engineering.
What you’ll study
You’ll build a solid foundation in sustainable engineering and technology, while gaining professional skills valued across construction, infrastructure and environmental sectors, including academic writing, research skills, data analysis, project work and an understanding of legislation, sustainability and professional responsibilities.
Modules offered can vary each year but may include:
• Academic Skills and Communication
• Data Analysis and Research Skills
• Introduction to the Built Environment
• Applied Knowledge and Skills in the Built Environment
How you’ll learn
You will learn through:
• Lectures, seminars and workshops delivered by experienced academic staff
• Project based learning to develop practical engineering and problem solving skills
• Case studies exploring design, construction and sustainability challenges
• Coursework, reports and essays that strengthen analytical and professional communication skills
• Regular meetings with your academic guidance tutor for personalised feedback and support
You will also have access to digital learning resources, including online materials, industry relevant software and virtual learning tools.
Future opportunities
On successful completion, you can progress onto an undergraduate degree in engineering or a related built environment subject at Roehampton. The course also supports entry into roles where technical understanding and analytical skills are valued.
