Course summary

Our Business Degrees with Foundation Year ensure you have the core knowledge and skills to start your academic journey. You'll be well-equipped for your studies and have a strong knowledge-base from which to build and excel in your chosen course.

All undergraduate degrees within the York Business School come with the opportunity to study a foundation year. Each foundation year is an integrated part of the degree programme and extends the 3 years of the traditional degree to 4 years.

The foundation year will suit those students who do not meet the standard entry criteria for the 3 year programme, but who wish to have the benefit of a University experience rather than study at College.

The programmes will suit mature learners returning to education as well as students completing level 3 (A level / BTEC etc) qualifications. In particular it may also suit students who lack confidence in their preparedness for University study.

As this is a University Course full Student Loans are available in the same way as they are for any of our 3 year degree programmes. It is also possible for students to undertake a year in industry, although this will increase the degree length to five years.

Contextual admissions

Universities and colleges consider more than grades when assessing applications and may make offers based on a range of criteria. Learn more about contextual offers.

For all UK applicants, we look at six factors:
• Where you live
• Your school or college
• Age
• Disability
• First in family to study in HE
• Time in care
These six factors create a point score, which is then taken into account, along with standard criteria. The points don’t influence whether an offer is made but can influence the type of offer made, resulting in reduced or unconditional offers.
Full information is on our website, including scheme adaptations for individual courses.
