About us

Our competitive science PhD programme is designed for the next generation of world-leading scientists who want a career in cancer research. These students benefit from an above average tax-free stipend and exceptional research facilities. 

Additionally, clinicians can undertake a PhD or MD(Res) degree. These students form a vital link in our translational research, bringing knowledge of clinical practice into the laboratory and taking the knowledge of laboratory research back into the clinic and using it to help cancer patients.

The ICR also runs an MSc in Oncology for medically qualified candidates who intend to pursue a professional career in some aspect of clinical or medical oncology, either as a clinical academic or a clinician. The course helps clinicians to develop their career by equipping them with a high-level understanding of the theory and practice of cancer science, of advanced cancer treatment, and the science of cancer research – all to the benefit of cancer patients.

    Hi! I’m Amelia, and I’m studying biology at UOL! I am the course rep for my year and also a student ambassador, and my interests in biology are towards the structural aspects. I enjoy learning about human biology and how the human systems work, and the similarities between us and animals. I hope to study more about the history of biology, such as fossils and bones in the future, as well as ‘ancientbiotics’ - how humans treated diseases without the knowledge we have now.     Hey! I went to uni after completing my GCSEs and A-Levels and with the smallest clue of what I wanted to do for a career. Now, in my final year I can say it was the best decision for me, gifting me the chance to grow into an adult with adult responsibilities amongst others in the same situation and has aligned and inspired my interests for the future. Through my course I’ve become keen to pursue personal training and work in the fitness industry! Uni has so far been the most fun experience and by throwing myself into everything on offer like socials; sports; societies I would say I’ve had a quite well-rounded experience of university.
