What makes us different

Thinking Without Borders is the name we’ve given to the combined projects happening at UEA. It describes our approach to bringing together disciplines in new and exciting ways to address existing and emerging global challenges. We have some of the world’s finest facilities and brightest minds working together every day to discover new ways to change the world for the better. Whether it’s through policy change, research and development of technology, working with organisations like the British Red Cross to get clean water to children, or contributing to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) with trusted climate change data. Research at UEA doesn’t happen in isolation – it’s not just teachers and students tinkering with ideas. This is the combination of many departments, organisations, companies, industries, groups and individuals working together and providing real insights and solutions to critical global problems. 

When choosing my university, I wanted to find out everything I could about the ones I was interested in. Going to open days helped me decide that UEA was right for me. Everyone was so friendly, and I love that everything was on campus. There’s a real community feel here.

    I'm from Hyderabad, which is a metropolitan city in the south of India. Hyderabad has an incredibly rich and diverse literary history, and growing up there meant that I was inevitably drawn into art and literature. Writing has always been my passion- I can't remember a time when I didn't make up stories in my head! I love literature that's accessible yet elegant, simple stories done beautifully with care. I've spent the last three years at UEA on the English Literature with Creative Writing course, and fallen in love with both Norwich and UEA. There's a real camaraderie to be found among students and staff here, and despite being thousands of miles from India I've begun to feel at home here in Norwich. UEA is full of brilliant, passionate people who support each other and aim to effect real change in the world- being here has not only exposed me to different cultures and experiences, but also helped to improve my craft and expand my perspective of the world. UEA's an amazing place for students and writers to be, and I look forward to speaking to you about both Norwich and the University!

    My journey to this land of 'many stories' - Norwich, is that of intense research that uncovered fascinating realities, amongst which is the combination of aesthetic medieval architecture and academic excellence. UEA is a school that harmonizes students from different countries with diverse ethnicities via the availability of different groups and clubs in order to foster social interactions among students. UEA is also highly student-centered in terms of prioritizing and providing quality academic and well-being support at various levels. More interesting is the fast admission process, timely responses to enquiries and the flexible payment methods which is the icebreaker. The Nigerian representative and student ambassadors also makes the admission process a lot easier by being usually accessible and available to douse the flames of confusion and give clear directions where necessary. I have always found myself within the spheres of leadership and responsibility at every point and that is where my passion for health and wellbeing was birthed. Studying nursing in the school of Health Sciences at UEA has proven to be a step in the right direction; to mention a few will be the practical and simulation sessions, one-on-one mentorship educational system whereby students academic growth is every lecturer's concern. Also, the inter-professional learning opportunity where students from the entire school of health sciences work together to promote excellent teamwork which underpins the Nursing profession.  I love taking long walks along the school’s riverside which gives a glimpse of the epic coastal sceneries that surrounds UEA and grabbing a cup of coffee from Ziggys or simply relax in the evenings with my friends for a fun-time at the scholars bar on campus: UEA is simply home from home for me.

    Hey! I went to uni after completing my GCSEs and A-Levels and with the smallest clue of what I wanted to do for a career. Now, in my final year I can say it was the best decision for me, gifting me the chance to grow into an adult with adult responsibilities amongst others in the same situation and has aligned and inspired my interests for the future. Through my course I’ve become keen to pursue personal training and work in the fitness industry! Uni has so far been the most fun experience and by throwing myself into everything on offer like socials; sports; societies I would say I’ve had a quite well-rounded experience of university.

I come from a very big family and the first to come to university, so the whole experience was very new to me. I am local to my university so have always known the area quite well. I loved my Foundation Year as it built the foundation levels for me to continue with my degree and help me understand the basics of university and understand how UEA works as an institution. My future career plans are to become a Spanish teacher in a Secondary school.
