Hello, this is Claire Marchant from UCAS and welcome to this international teachers' and advisers' conference. Hopefully you will find it stimulating - we're doing on digital platforms as much as the world has gone to digital platforms. Couple of reflections from me as we go into the introductions, certainly I think it's worth remembering the 15th of January deadline and the backdrop in terms of the International appetite for UK HE. So we saw application numbers up 2% and 14% retrospectively for EU and non EU international students, and that's really, really encouraging. Obviously COVID will have an impact and that's what we're going to spend some time exploring through this period and looking forward to autumn 2020 and what might be the offer then. Certainly we are working very, very closely with universities to ensure that we get information advice out to you in a meaningful and timely way. Please do remember that we have extended our deadlines the 18th of June for really making decisions on those offers. But it's important that you invite your students to make timely decisions in the main scheme, before clearing, that's of paramount importance. Making some decisions that then they can go back and look at once they get some of those results is something you'll hear again and again as we go through this virtual conference. So what are you going to hear at the international teachers' and advisers' conference? Well, much of what you'll hear about is what we're offering in the future, but also what we'll be offering to both students, and universities and colleges, and yourselves since we went into lockdown in late March 2020. In the UK, we've done a huge amount for students, particularly our Facebook lives have been really, really popular. We've had engagement from over 20,000 through to 110,000 for some of our Facebook Lives, and we've held two of those just entirely for international students - some of their questions. And even though they're live, you can also get those commonly asked questions on playback. So I'd encourage you to get your students engaged in that. Secondly, our pre existing partnership with Unibuddy has proved ever popular. And we've offered that on a free basis to universities and colleges across the UK. So again, I'd encourage you to get your students to use that service where it's available at a university to have that online relationship with perhaps a peer who has studied at that university and the course that they want to study at. And then thirdly, we've been doing a huge amount of survey work with existing students, including international students with the British Council. What we do know from that is that more than ever, students are holding back - so they have an offer, but they've decided to sit on the decision. I would encourage you that by the 18th of June, you really encourage the students to get a decision back. And because it'll put them in a better position as they go into clearing 2020 and then they can always change their mind. We can see then, as we know as of this week, universities are cementing their plans for the sort of learning experience that students will get from autumn 2020. So as we go towards the 18th of June really it's important, you start to advise your students to make some decisions that get them in that best position before we enter clearing, but what's available to you as a teacher or adviser advising international students? Well, certainly, the adviser portal, which we introduced last year will have real time information for the first time this year, which puts you in a really good position to be that bit ahead of your students. And also we have self release that was introduced last year, which enables your students as we go into clearing to decline a place. We've introduced virtual events and we're piloting that at the moment and we'll see how that will help future cohorts as they go through. So watch out for more information and further information on that. And then for 2020, summer 2020 we're introducing, through clearing, something called clearing plus, which your students, your international students, will be able to proactively access, particularly if they find themselves in a situation where they are unplaced. So quite a lot of offer some of it, you know, dated back to last year and some of it new for this year. So do please keep engaged and ask questions as we go through our q&a during the course of this conference. So again, welcome to this international teachers advisors conference. As we all know, it's very uncertain times and we know working with our university and college colleagues in UK, he, that they're balancing what that autumn schedule looks like what a start to UK HE looks like. The paramount concern for them is the health and safety of their students, but also their staff as well. So they're taking that into consideration as they look at individual courses, as well as what the overall campus offering will look like. We hope that this virtual conference will give you some insights in terms of supporting those students that you're looking to support over the coming weeks and months. Again, I'd encourage you to support students to make decisions. We'd like some feedback on the conference, we know we've got, you know, 100 different countries at 700 delegates as a huge plethora of sharing and networking going on. And we've laid on some speed networking. And then finally, we have a question and answer session, which we'll be publishing week commencing the eighth of June to give you more insight as we go through the coming weeks and months. And my thoughts are with you. It's very difficult supporting students in this time because what they want is certainty. Obviously, all we can do is say - this is what we know, and this is what we don't know, this is how we think we will go through the next weeks, months and years and unprecedented times for all of us, but hope this is really, really valuable for you. And please give us some feedback on how it worked!
