Mark Heaton

Principal Lecturer , Sheffield Hallam University

Biography

Mark is a Principal Lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University, and Markets and Recruitment Lead for Teacher Education. He has more than 25 years' experience of working with primary and secondary schools, including two years in the USA through the Fulbright Teacher Exchange Programme. Mark teaches on the undergraduate and postgraduate routes, and supports the continuing professional development of teachers, specifically regarding behaviour, attendance, and anti-bullying.  He works extensively on Intial Teacher Training (ITT) with our many School Direct and SCITT partners across the region, and beyond.
 
Mark has a bachelor’s degree in Primary Education with QTS from Edge Hill University, and an MEd in Special and Inclusive Education from the University of Sheffield. He has also completed a postgraduate diploma in Reflective Practice in Leading in Behaviour and Attendance at the University of the West of England.

Mark has featured on BBC Radio Sheffield and Hallam FM, discussing a wide range of educational issues, including anti-bullying in schools, and has recently worked with Shiga University and Shiga Prefecture in Japan, providing professional advice on anti-bullying to district officials, officials, teachers, and pupils. His latest published piece has been for 'The Conversation', providing guidance for parents about bullying. Mark is delighted to talk today about routes into teaching.
