Dom leads on student experience policies in higher education at the Department for Education (DfE). He began work in the civil service in 2003 following 25 years in the private sector, including stints at Sainsbury’s, Homebase and Beetroot Communications Agency.

Having a son who entered higher education in September 2020, Dom has a personal stake in ensuring the student experience is the best it can be.

In his civil service career, Dom has worked at the Office for National Statistics, the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and the Department for Work and Pensions, as well as the DfE.

Dom has a first class degree in French from University College London and is a published novelist under the pen name of Dominic Garcin.
