Research and advice can help your students make the right decision
The first thing they need to do is think about what subject they want to study. They should consider their interests, talents and of course their career aspirations. If they are unsure about what route to take, our Stamford Test is a free online questionnaire which asks a student a series of questions and then recommends subjects that would suit their interests and abilities.
The next step they need to take is to search our
comprehensive database of course information using our online
Course Search. From
here they can find specific fee information for their chosen course and
university or college in the 'entry profiles' section. We also publish
some helpful guidebooks; please visit our bookshop for more information.
UK qualifications are accepted and highly regarded throughout the world. However, your students should check that the qualification is suitable for their chosen profession and the country where they intend to work.
Contact universities and colleges directly for more information
Once your students have a short-list of courses, we recommend that they contact the universities or colleges directly for more information. It is important that they ask as many questions as possible to help them decide if they will be happy at their chosen university or college. For example, they may want to know:
- if other students from their country are studying in the same place;
- if the university or college has cultural or social clubs available for them to join;
- what types of accommodation are available;
- what types of sports facilities are available;
- whether the university or college offers support for people with disabilities.
If possible, they should speak to a student from their country who is already taking the course or studying at that university or college. The admissions tutor or the international office may be able to put them in touch with someone.
Once your students accept a course, they should speak to the course admissions tutors to ask if there is anything they need to do before the course starts. They may suggest that your students look at certain books on the course reading list or that they improve their computer skills.
