Provisional final figures for 2007 entry

UCAS is today releasing the provisional final figures for full-time undergraduate students starting courses at universities and colleges in 2007.

The total number of people applying for 2007 entry was 531,898. This is compared to 504,748 and 520,691 in 2006 and 2005 respectively. This year's figure represents a rise of 5.4% on 2006 applicants.

The number of those accepted onto courses for 2007 entry was 411,971. This is a rise of 5.8% on the number of people accepted in 2006.

These figures make 2007 a record breaking year in terms of both those applying and being accepted to full-time higher education courses. The previous records were set in 2005 and the top-line figures for that year are outlined in table 1 below.

The final figures for 2007 entry are due to be confirmed in January 2008.

Notes

  1. Includes those deferring entry to the following year. (Applicants are counted in the year in which they apply, not the year in which they intend to begin their course.)

  2. Eligible applicants are sent details of Clearing, but as they do not have to register with UCAS to take part, the number active is not known.

  3. Includes those withdrawn after accepting an offer.

  4. Comparisons with previous years are made relative to the publication of Advanced level results (16 August 2007, 17 August 2006 and 18 August 2005). For example, figures for Thursday 30 August 2007, fourteen days after this year's publication date, will be compared with those for Thursday, 31 August 2006 and Thursday 01 September 2005.
