Course summary

This programme is designed for students wishing to develop knowledge and skills specifically relevant to sport and exercise settings, as well as more traditional physiotherapy environments.

Graduates gain a professional Master's qualification in physiotherapy, opening up a range of career opportunities as a physiotherapist in the sport, exercise and health and wellbeing sectors. It also provides foundation for further research study.

MPhysiotherapy Sport and Exercise Medicine contains all the modules from the University’s highly regarded BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy programme. This curriculum is extended with additional sport and exercise specific modules and enhanced research.

You will undertake a range of placements in professional and amateur sport settings, including the University's Physiotherapy and Sport Rehabilitation Clinic, as well other physiotherapy settings.

Professional accreditation
This course is approved by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), the statutory body for Allied Health Professionals. By the end of your studies, you will be eligible to apply for registration with the HCPC, and will be eligible to apply for full membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP).

Assessment method

The programme uses a diverse range of assessment strategies that accommodate different learning styles. These include: -continuous assessment of competence-based clinical skills -practical assessments that are designed to mirror the clinical environment -assessments that require you to demonstrate academic writing skills -a common assessment tool for practice placements, used collaboratively with three universities in the region -group and individual presentation tasks

UCAS Tariff - 128 points

A minimum of 128 UCAS tariff points from 3 A Levels (or equivalent) (excluding General Studies) plus GCSE grade C/4 in English Language and Mathematics. Level 2 Functional Skills in English and Mathematics are acceptable in place of GCSE's

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - DDM

In a Health, Science or Sport Subject - Sports BTECs must include Science/Anatomy and Physiology units

Access to HE Diploma

128 UCAS tariff points from an Access to Higher Education Diploma in Health Professions or Science

Scottish Higher - Not accepted

Scottish Advanced Higher

As UCAS tariff to include a minimum of two Scottish Advanced Highers

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

128 UCAS tariff overall from 3 Higher Level subjects. Plus, HL 3 or SL 4 in Maths and English A HL 5 or SL 5 OR English B HL 5 or SL 7.

Leaving Certificate - Higher Level (Ireland) (first awarded in 2017)

As tariff from five Irish Higher subjects. English Language and Mathematics at Higher Level grade H6, or Ordinary Level grade O4 or above

All places are offered subject to satisfactory occupational health screening and a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
