Course summary

Hull York Medical School, a partnership between the Universities of Hull and York, provides a unique undergraduate medicine programme, designed to equip the doctors of tomorrow with the skills they need to deliver exceptional healthcare.

The Gateway Year is designed for students from a widening participation background with a clear focus on recruiting students locally and supporting their learning. The aim is to progressively build skills and experience so that students gradually develop skills of enquiry-based learning within a challenging but supportive learning environment, ready for entry to the MB BS.

Qualification requirements

A level - BBC

Essential Subjects: Biology and Chemistry (or equivalent) at grade B are essential. Information: Applicants taking Science A Levels that include a practical component will be required to pass.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - DDD

We will consider the BTEC National Extended Diploma in Applied Science (Biomedical Science).

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 30 points

With 14 in Higher Level subjects including Biology and Chemistry at Grade 5.

WJEC Level 3 Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales - B - C

We will consider this qualification alongside or in combination with A Levels or other qualifications, as equivalent to one A Level.

T Level - Not accepted

5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade A*-C/level 9-4, including English Language and Mathematics at grade C/level 4 or above. Resits are accepted. Applicants must also meet the Widening Participation criteria to be eligible for this programme. University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT)
You will need to achieve Band 1, 2 or 3 in the Situational Judgement Test part of the UCAT. Applicants with Band 4 (the lowest band) will not be considered. English language requirements

Non-native speakers of English without the required GCSE will be required to achieve a total IELTS score of 7.5 with a minimum component score of 7.0.
