During this Level 4 programme, you will receive a specialised introduction to coaching in the UK landscape and different coaching functions. This will develop and strengthen core skills while preparing you for Level 5 or to enter employment with the qualities necessary for job roles that require some personal responsibility. You will gain a wide range of coaching knowledge linked to practical skills gained through research, independent study, directed study and workplace scenarios.
You will be involved in vocational activities that will help you to develop behaviours (the attitudes and approaches required for a competence) and transferable skills. Transferable skills are those such as communication, teamwork, research and analysis, which are highly valued in higher education and the workplace. By the end of Level 4, you will have sound knowledge of the concepts of coaching in the UK. You will be competent in a range of subject-specific skills as well as general skills and qualities relevant to key areas in Sport and Exercise Science.
Graduates successfully completing the Higher National Certificate will be able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of the basic concepts of Sport and Exercise Science and will have the qualities needed for employment that requires some degree of personal responsibility. You will develop a range of transferable skills to ensure effective team working, independent initiatives, organisational competence and problem-solving strategies. This course will also allow you to develop an adaptable and flexible approach to Sport and Exercise Science, show resilience under pressure, and meet challenging targets within a given resource.

This Higher Technical Qualification is approved against occupational standards decided by employers.
