Course summary
Our Media, Film and Journalism (with Foundation Year) option is a four-year course with an integrated foundation year which leads to the same qualification as our three-year honours degree. It has been specifically designed for those wanting to undertake degree-level study but who may not meet the entry requirements or have traditional qualifications.
The Foundation Year (Year 0) offers you the chance to expand and strengthen your confidence, skills and knowledge – on successful completion, you will join Year 1 of the BA (Hons) Media, Film and Journalism programme.
Our Media, Film and Journalism degree will allow you to develop your creative voice whilst giving you skills, knowledge and experience in a range of creative and communications media. Gain both practical and analytical skills and benefit from our strong connections with working film studios and access to broadcasting companies. The foundation year aims to equip you with the academic and study skills to succeed at degree-level. You’ll sample various methods of university learning, including seminars and tutorials.
‘Placement Year’ and 'International Experience Year’ options are available for this course. You will have the opportunity to fully consider these options when you have started your course at Bangor and can make an application for a transfer onto such a pathway at the appropriate time. We are happy to accept combinations of the qualifications listed above, as well as alternative Level 3 qualifications such as: Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), City & Guilds Advanced Technical Diplomas, Cambridge Technical Certificates and Diplomas; Irish Leaving Certificate. We also welcome applications from mature learners and/or those with other qualifications are considered on individual merit.

Additional fee information
For Home Students the full-time fee for the Foundation Year will be £,5670 (provisional) and then, the Full-time Fee will apply on progression to year 1 of the degree course or any linked degree course. Please see our website for more information.
On 4 December 2024 the Welsh Government confirmed that the tuition fee cap (the maximum tuition fee that regulated providers can charge to certain students on full-time undergraduate courses) will increase to £9,535 per year, subject to changes in the regulations by the Welsh Government.
