Is this course for you?
This course is for people who want to become a diagnostic radiographer, working in a variety of healthcare settings. Radiographers carry out X-rays, CT scans, MRI and ultrasound, plus a range of other imaging modalities to help diagnose and treat patients.
How you will learn
Our state-of-the-art facilities include a purpose-built diagnostic imaging suite with the latest x-ray, radiography, ultrasound, and bone densitometry systems. Plus, you’ll also make use of our immersive suite also offers a simulated environment to practise your skills in a realistic setting. You’ll be taught by an expert teaching team, all of which are qualified radiographers and registered with the HCPC, and many of which are also engaged in doctoral-level research.
Opportunities and experiences
Clinical placements are an integral part of your study. You will be allocated to a placement centring on one of the East Midlands cities, with the length of time spent on placement increasing in each phase of the programme. Approximately half of your time is spent on clinical placement in different settings to give you insights into the varying workloads, practices, and roles you will encounter in radiography
Professionally accredited
Prepare for your career on a course approved by the Health and Care Professions Council, so you can apply to register with them as a diagnostic radiographer on graduation, as long as you meet the HCPC’s requirements.
Careers and employability
When you graduate, you’ll be able to apply for registration with the UK Health and Care Professions Council as a diagnostic radiographer, as long as you meet the HCPC’s requirements, fully prepared to work in the rapidly expanding field of medical imaging. Many graduates go on to secure jobs at their placement hospitals, while others secure roles in a variety of healthcare settings. You’ll also develop leadership capabilities on this course, to prepare you for more senior roles as your career progresses.

We encourage you to outline all your qualifications and achievements in your application to provide us a full picture. Your offer will typically be based on your predicted and/or achieved grades from full level 3 qualifications or above e.g. A levels, BTEC Ext Diploma, Access to HE, etc.
Any subject specifics are outlined below in the A-levels section, and these specifics are applicable across all equivalent qualifications.
A strong application/performance and appropriate experience will be taken into account where typical criteria is not met.
At least a grade B in either Biology, Physics or Chemistry A Level (or equivalent qualification).
Please note: we do not accept BTEC Extended Diploma in Health & Social Care
GCSE (or equivalent) including Maths, English and double Science at grade 4/C or above

We may operate some flexibility with entry grades to support widening participation, though most of the students that enrol on this course achieve the published entry tariff or above. Applicants who achieve grades below the published tariff may be offered an alternative course or a 4-year route if there is one available.
