If you are taking the first steps towards a career in the management of zoological collections and species conservation, then our Extended FdSc Animal Collections Management and Conservation programme could be for you. Designed to ignite your passion for wildlife conservation and management, this course offers an immersive blend of academic study and practical experience.
In the introductory year, you'll lay the foundation for Level 4 study, acquiring essential vocational and academic skills whilst enriching your core understanding of animal sciences. Whether you're a career changer, new to the animal sector, or seeking to enhance your existing knowledge, this programme provides the perfect launchpad for your aspirations.
The programme can then help you to discover the intricacies of animal husbandry, welfare, behaviour, training, and conservation genetics, underpinned by expert guidance and hands-on learning opportunities. From honing communication and academic writing skills to mastering practical tasks like behaviour monitoring, conservation education, enclosure design, and welfare assessment, you'll emerge with a well-rounded skill set ready for the challenges of the zoo industry. There may also be opportunity to work alongside the award-winning zoological collection at Flamingo Land.
The work placement component also offers invaluable training, allowing you to further develop your skills and enhance your employability. With access to our licensed and BIAZA accredited wildlife park, boasting industry leading enclosures for 100’s of species across all taxonomic groups. Plus, you will get to use our Science laboratories and Digital Academy, giving you access to the tools and resources to help you thrive in your studies. This course can help you to unlock your graduate potential to make a difference in animal conservation sciences and management.

Applicants should have achieved 5 GCSEs including English, Maths and Science at grade C/4 or above. Equivalent qualifications may be accepted in lieu of GCSEs. In addition applicants must have successfully completed a minimum of one year of Level 3 study and/or have significant industry experience.

The tuition fee for entry onto one of our degree programmes is charged per academic year. Our tuition fees will be subject to an annual inflationary rise, as per government guidance. Any change to currently advertised tuition fees will be communicated prior to enrolment onto a course of study.
