Course summary

Become a leader in a new era of technological development with our MEng Electronic and Electrical Engineering with Industrial Year. You'll get real workplace experience and open up a world of career opportunities.

Learn how to invent, design and manage technologies and their applications. From energy and electronics to communications and network engineering, you’ll be able to choose from leadership roles in a huge range of sectors. Spend a year working in industry to explore career options.

Combining theoretical and practical learning, you’ll discover how to design electrical circuits, develop communications systems and how power systems work. You’ll build creative, technical, analytical and decision-making skills. Study in our state-of-the-art building with a Design Centre and the Makerspace practical facility. Your industrial year will show you how to apply your knowledge, develop professional skills and build your networks.

In your final year, you’ll deepen your specialist knowledge with a project that can be linked to industry, with options ranging from electromagnetics to data mining, or renewable energy systems integration. Working alongside mechanical and civil engineers you’ll graduate with interdisciplinary experience ready to tackle engineering challenges in a variety of careers. UCAS Tariff - Not accepted

A level - AAA

A level Mathematics required. General Studies not normally accepted as one of the three A levels, but a good performance may be taken into account if you fail to meet the conditions of an offer marginally.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016)

Not considered unless A level Maths also taken.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 32 points

6,6,6 at Higher Level to include Mathematics with a minimum of 32 points overall.

Welsh Baccalaureate - Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate (last awarded Summer 2024)

Accepted in place of a non-required A level with the equivalent grade.

Cambridge International Pre-U Certificate - Principal

Accepted in place of A levels with the following grade equivalencies: D2 = A*; D3 = A; M2 = B. Combinations of A levels and Principle subjects are accepted. NB required subjects must be offered (see A level Section)
