Course summary

Why Sports Journalism?
With our graduates working for the likes of The Times, BBC, Sky Sports News, The Athletic, La Liga TV, Matchroom Boxing and Premier League and Women’s Super League clubs including Arsenal and Aston Villa – this course has a proven record of providing students with the skills and contacts to thrive in the industry.

Our Sports Journalism BA (Hons) course scored 94% for academic support in the National Student Survey 2025 (NSS 25). Our journalism courses are ranked 1st in the UK for career prospects by the Guardian University Guide 2025. Our communications & media studies courses are ranked 2nd in the UK for graduate prospects and 3rd for student satisfaction by the Complete University Guide 2026.

Taught by award-winning and agenda-setting sports journalists who continue to work for leading brands on a weekly basis, we have connections to some of the biggest players in the sports media industry – including the BBC, ESPN, The Athletic and Amazon Prime Video Sport.

Through superb links with Premier League and EFL clubs, you’ll get the chance to develop your skills on location at some of the best sports grounds in the country, with internship opportunities with men’s and women’s teams available at clubs like Aston Villa, Wolves, West Bromwich Albion, and Bristol City.

We have multiple graduates working in the F1 industry, including content creators for Aston Martin and the international editor-in-chief of GP Blog – and are proud to have F1TV presenter Laura Winter as our Course Associate, allowing us to benefit from her experience through bespoke sessions and mentoring throughout the academic year.

We’re passionate about providing pathways into motorsport and, whether you’re interested in race reporting, social media or communications, we can offer opportunities to build experience in this field with a number of students now reporting remotely on F1.
