Assessment method

Assessment is based on examination and coursework. Marks are weighted in a 1:3:6 ratio for the three years of study to produce an overall aggregate.

Types of assessment

  • Set exercises or coursework, which you take home and complete with the aid of your notes.
  • Formal unseen written examinations every year.
  • Class or online tests.
  • Group assessments, such as written reports, also form the basis of assessment for some modules.

In the third year of your degree, a core module consists of a group project. The group is assessed by a group written report and an individual presentation on the project. Also, a small number of modules require students to give presentations.

Feedback on assessment
You will normally be provided with feedback within three weeks of the submission deadline or assessment date. This would normally include a provisional grade or mark. For end-of-module examinations or an equivalent significant task (e.g. an end of module project), feedback will normally be provided within four weeks.

We welcome applications from students studying the Access to HE Diploma. Below provides our grade and pathway requirements, though all applications are considered holistically including work experience. Pass in a QAA recognised Access to HE Diploma. Full award (60 credits) of which a minimum of 45 credits must be at Level 3 including 30 credits at Distinction and 15 credits at Merit. Accepted pathways: Engineering Science with Mathematics, Computer Science and Maths, Science and Maths

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - DM

Including an 'A' Level grade A in Mathematics or Further Mathematics

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 31 points

31 points total, including Higher Level Mathematics at grade 6. A minimum of grade 5 in Standard Level English.

GCSE/National 4/National 5

A minimum of grade 4 (C) in English and Mathematics

We welcome applications that include the EPQ. Whilst we recognise the value of these projects in preparing students for independent learning at university, the EPQ is unlikely to form part of any conditional offer we make. We will consider the EPQ as part of the holistic assessment of the application and it could be used to form part of our final decision at Confirmation stage.
