Adult nursing is a challenging yet extremely rewarding career where you will work with a diverse range of acute and long-term illness in adults, in addition to promoting healthy lifestyles for all.
Adult nurses play a prominent role in hospitals and communities as part of a multi-professional team. They care for patients and clients in a variety of hospital and primary care settings. These include acute medical and surgical wards, operating theatres, Emergency Departments, high-dependency environments, nursing homes and district nursing. During clinical placements, students promote health maintenance and restoration.
As an adult nurse, you may decide to work in a hospital or community setting. Alternatively, you may wish to specialise in an area such as intensive care, nursing homes or district nursing.
Adult nurses provide a constant source of support and care to patients. Our degree in adult nursing prepares you for the role and responsibilities as a registered nurse. We provide you with the skills to meet the needs of patients and their significant others. This will include experience in the hospital, independent and the home environment. You will learn accountability for the important role you will play in their lives. We prepare you to apply for registration as a nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). Our degree will help you achieve the outcomes identified in the NMC Standards for Pre-registration Nurse Education (2019).
We offer either a hospital or community route through the Adult Nursing programme in order for you to tailor your placement experience to your future career aspirations. When on placement you will be allocated a practice supervisor who will support your learning and development on placement. You will also be assigned a practice assessor who will complete the formal assessment of your practice learning.
You will spend 50% of your time each year in these valuable work placements. Here you will learn the vital importance of communication and team work with other staff members.
