Course summary
Solve real world challenges and keep our world moving as a mechanical engineer. With our MEng Mechanical Engineering you’ll begin your journey to becoming a Chartered Engineer and open up a world of career opportunities.
Study with us and prepare for roles such as designing, manufacturing, installing and testing anything from nanoscale robots to spacecraft. You’ll learn to tackle engineering challenges and to play a leading role in building a sustainable future.
From mechanics and computing to sustainable energy, you'll learn the essentials and then choose areas of interest with this flexible programme. You'll be able to attend lectures on industrial design projects delivered by leading engineering companies.
Benefit from learning in our state-of-the-art building with Design Centres and the Makerspace where you'll apply your skills in a practical training facility. You can join student activity teams to create robots for competitions or building and race a car around the world.
You'll work alongside students in other engineering disciplines and in your final year, you'll deepen your specialist knowledge with a project that can be linked to industry. Get ready for an exciting future using your expertise as a mechanical engineer.

A level - AAA
A level Mathematics (Further Mathematics and Physics are not required but are advantageous).
General Studies not accepted.
Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016)
Not considered unless A level Maths also taken.
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 32 points
6,6,6 at Higher Level to include Mathematics with a minimum of 32 points overall.
Welsh Baccalaureate - Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate (last awarded Summer 2024)
Accepted in place of a non-required A level with the equivalent grade.
Cambridge International Pre-U Certificate - Principal
Accepted in place of A levels with the following grade equivalencies: D2 = A*; D3 = A; M2 = B. Combinations of A levels and Principle subjects are accepted. NB required subjects must be offered (see A level Section)
