Our course provides you with a practical and critical understanding of the changing face of journalism and the legal, political and economic aspects of the profession.
Our emphasis on employability means that you’ll be taught by professional journalists about everyday life in the industry. And we’ll introduce you to ways of gaining first-hand experiences in journalism – including work placements through our links with various news organisations as well as freelance opportunities.
The course provides the opportunity to study at a partner university overseas, or complete a work placement in industry in your third year.
We’re committed to producing highly capable graduates with the strongest possible skillset. From the start, we treat you not just as a student, but as a working journalist, challenging you to produce work to industry standard so you can excel in a newsroom environment.
The following entry points are available for this course:
Including English or Media Studies at grade C.
Minimum grades DMM (Distinction, Merit, Merit) in a related subject plus A-level English or Media Studies at grade C.
Pass Access to HE Diploma in a related subject with 45 credits overall with minimum 30 Credits at Merit & 15 Distinction including English or Media Studies at Level 3.
Including English or Media Studies.

Minimum grades DD (Distinction*, Distinction*) in a relevant subject plus grade C in A Level English or Media Studies.
Award of Diploma with 29 points overall with three HL subjects at grades 6, 5, 5 including English or Media Studies at minimum grade 5.
H2, H2, H2, H3 at HL including English or Media Studies.
T Level must be completed in a English/Literary subject or A Level English or Media Studies may be required. Please contact ugadmissions@napier.ac.uk to check if you meet the subject specific requirements.
Minimum Year 2 Entry Requirements
SQA Advanced Higher - BBC including English.
A-levels - BBB including English.
HNC B in related subject (Media and Communications). Other HNCs considered on individual basis.
Minimum Year 3 Entry Requirements
HND - Pass in a relevant subject with Grade B in the graded unit.
*Literary subjects accepted: Modern Studies, History, Psychology, RMPS, Theology, Media Studies, Philosophy, Politics, Sociology, Geography, Latin, Classics, A level Government and Politics, A level Classical Civilisation, A level Drama.
Including English or Media Studies.
