Course summary

Challenge the intersection of fashion, communication and divergent practices as you develop multidisciplinary skills and embrace emerging digital technologies.

What can you expect?
BA (Hons) Creative Direction for Fashion leverages innovation, trans-disciplinary media and cultural context to push the boundaries of fashion communication. The course is agile in its approach to creating and learning, with a distinct focus on concept informed by process. You will be encouraged to experiment and create strategic, future-facing work addressing cultural concerns and social, racial and ecological justice.

Using the skills of communication design, interface design, cultural programming and speculative design, you will be equipped to identify, anticipate and respond to communication opportunities as strategic thinkers and skilled communicators for our ever-changing fashion communication landscape.

  • Skills building: Develop multidisciplinary skills within communication design that will provide a wide range of graduate opportunities including as art directors, trends and innovation researchers, experience designers and as freelancers.

  • Industry links: With exposure to industry practitioners, you will have the opportunity to respond to knowledge exchange briefs. Past projects have included collaborations with H&M and the Victoria and Albert Museum.

  • Holistic: Explore fashion communication from theoretical, cultural, social and business perspectives to enhance your learning and practice.

  • Emerging technologies: Engage with emerging digital technologies and identify innovative opportunities for how they can be used within the fashion media and communication industry.

  • Work placement: Develop your skills within a work environment with an integrated work placement opportunity in your second year on the course.

UCAS Tariff

112 tariff points from full Level 3 qualifications.

A level

A total of 112 tariff points from two or more A-levels at C or higher; preferred subjects include those related to Art, Design or Fashion.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016)

DMM or higher in the BTEC National Extended Diploma in subjects relating to art and design.

Access to HE Diploma

112 tariff points from the complete Access to HE Diploma in a creative subject.

Scottish Higher

112 UCAS tariff points from Scottish Highers (including at least one Advanced Higher subject).

Equivalent EU or non-EU qualifications are also considered.

Additional fee information

Please note that the Home tuition fee for entry in September 2026 is subject to the passing of UK government legislation to approve the increase in fees. If this is not passed, the tuition fee for 2026/27 would be £9,535. Please check the fees and funding section of your course page on our website for more information: www.arts.ac.uk/courses. Tuition fees may increase in future years for new and continuing students.

The International fee is correct for entry in September 2026 and is subject to change for entry in September 2027. Tuition fees for international students may increase by up to 5% in each future year of your course.
