Course summary

This Level 4 Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Health and Social Care Practice provides a strong foundation for students seeking to enter or progress within the health and social care sector. The general pathway develops essential knowledge, practical skills, and professional values required for effective care delivery across a range of settings.

Modules

There are seven modules in this one-year course, six worth 15 credits, and one worth 30 credits - totalling the 120 credits required to achieve the full HNC qualification.

Assessment method

Assessment is 100% coursework-based and includes:

Written assignments and reports
Case studies and scenario analysis
Reflective journals and portfolio of evidence
Presentations and professional discussions

Qualified teacher status (QTS)

To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:

International applicants

Solihull College & University Centre are not a licenced student sponsor institution for UK student visas; therefore, we are unable to accept applications from students that require a student visa to enter the UK.

Entry requirements

Qualification requirements

UCAS Tariff - 80 points

Must be a relevant subject area to the subject qualification.

A level

A minimum of three A levels equivalent to 80 UCAS Tariff Points must be a relevant subject area to the subject qualification.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - MMP

Must be a relevant subject area to the subject qualification.

Access to HE Diploma

Pass in Access course with 60 credits overall including 45 Level 3 credits passed with a minimum of 80 UCAS Tariff Points in a relevant subject area to the subject qualification.

GCSE/National 4/National 5

GCSE/IGCSE English Language grades 9-4/A*-C or recognised equivalent. GCSE/IGCSE Maths grades 9-4/A*-C or recognised equivalent. GCSE/IGCSE Science grades 9-4/A*-C or recognised equivalent.

T Level - Pass (C and above)

Must be a relevant subject area to the subject qualification.

Equal consideration is given to applicants who are currently in relevant work and wish to apply to Solihull College & University Centre. To apply, they must have a minimum of 3 years’ relevant work experience, demonstrating technical, management or supervisory duties. Any application must also include a reference from their line manager which supports entry to higher education

English language requirements

Students who are non-native English speakers, or who have not studied the final two years of school in English, but can demonstrate capability in English at a standard commensurate to IELTS 6.0, with a minimum of 5.5 being awarded on individual sections for a level 4, 5 or 6 qualification, will be considered as eligible to apply for the programme/course.

Additional fee information

Please budget £10 for essential equipment required on the course. Although there is no requirement to buy text books, we do recommend students budget around £50 for books. There may be mandatory trips, please budget up to £50 for these through the academic year.
