Music and sound are fundamental to how we experience stories, spaces and culture. Our music and sound production degree is designed for aspiring media composers, sound designers and audio producers who want to build industry-ready creative and technical skills for the creative industries. This highly practical course explores how audio and music connect with storytelling, screen-based media, interactive experiences and emerging creative technologies.

With a strong focus on collaboration and project-based learning, you will work on practical briefs and cross-disciplinary projects alongside students from other creative courses. Teaching is delivered by experienced academics and industry professionals, supported by masterclasses, guest speakers and industry-informed learning.

Integrated Foundation Year
The Integrated Foundation Year on this course will introduce you to the fundamental principles of design. Your foundation year gives you the time, space and support to explore your strengths, build confidence and prepare for the demands of project-based, industry-focused learning. Modules are as follows*:

Module 1: Diagnostic exploration - making informed choices
Module 2: Technical - Technical knowledge in practice
Module 3: Specialist - Innovating specialist practice
Module 4: Integration - Integrated practice for progression to Higher Education

After you have completed your Integrated Foundation Year, you will study the following:

Year 1
Year 1 builds core skills in sound and music production - covering studio recording, composition, electronic arrangement, and post-production. You'll work to set briefs, explore career pathways, and begin developing your contextual studies research.

Modules may include:

  • Rave Beginnings - Music and Sound Theory into Practice

  • DAW Software Techniques

  • Studio Recording and Mixing

  • Audio Production Workflows

Year 2
Year 2 deepens your expertise in industry equipment and software, exploring specialist areas of music composition and sound design. You'll refine your practice through standard industry workflows and collaborative creative briefs.

Modules may include:

  • Sound Synthesis and Digital Audio Procressing (Elective)

  • Music for Film and TV (Elective)

  • Sound Production for Film and TV (Elective)

Year 3
Final year brings your learning together in a final portfolio and self-initiated project, supported by a long-form dissertation. Your portfolio will serve as a professional showreel - ready to take you into the industry.
