Respiratory medicine is an increasingly important field of medicine, as respiratory disease is a growing cause of morbidity and mortality. The MSc Respiratory Medicine is an online course, run with our collaborative partner Diploma MSc. It allows you to explore and study the major classes of respiratory disease, conduct research in respiratory medicine and have a direct opportunity to improve patient care.
Both the Postgraduate Diploma and MSc courses are aimed at Doctors, GPs, Allied Health Professionals, Practice Nurses or equivalent professional qualifications and background experience. Completion of the MSc Respiratory Medicine course will enhance private practice and will help career progression.
Year One:
Module 1 – Respiratory medicine – Symptoms, signs and investigations (20 credits)
Module 2 – Asthma and Allergy (20 credits)
Module 3 – Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (20 credits)
Module 4 – Thoracic oncology and pleural disease (20 credits)
Module 5 – Respiratory infections; diagnoses and management (20 credits)
Module 6 – Other important respiratory conditions and diseases (20 credits)
On completion of the course, you will be able to:
•Demonstrate a systematic understanding of the care of patients in respiratory medicine.
•Critically understand current issues affecting the care of patients undertaking respiratory treatments.
•Demonstrate an advanced knowledge of respiratory medicine that will facilitate decision-making in unpredictable and/or complex situations.
•Use knowledge to adapt professional practice to meet the changing demands of healthcare systems.
Students are assessed across the following components of the module:
•Clinical case scenarios with case-based discussion
•Individual learning portfolio
•Group/individual activity
•Case-based Examination
