Course summary
Adult nursing is a dynamic, rewarding, and highly skilled caring and compassionate career. You will develop diverse skills ranging from the delivery of health education for individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds to delivering complex care for people with multiple acute or long term conditions.
This course aims to develop nurses who are able to deliver person-centred, safe and effective care, working with other professions and agencies in an ever-changing and complex healthcare environment.
You will experience a variety of clinical placements and will learn using a diverse range of techniques and approaches. You will undertake clinical practice for 50% of the course, in community and hospital placements as well as independent and voluntary sector experience.
During placements, you will be involved in nursing activities including providing care for a range of patients relevant to your chosen nursing pathway.
GCU's learning environment provides innovative, flexible and effective opportunities to develop understanding and nursing skills, using methods such as a blend of online and face-to-face teaching and a state-of-the-art inter-professional simulation suite.
Your career
Upon successful completion of the course, you will be eligible for registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). You will be equipped to apply for a wide range of positions in the NHS, working closely with patients, clients, service users and carers, and also leading in management and research.

Standard Qualification requirements
A level - BCC
preferably including a science subject Plus GCSE English, Maths and a Science subject at C/4
Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - DMM
Applied Science, Biological/Biomedical Science or Health Care related at DMM and GCSE English, Maths and a Science subject at C/4
Access to HE Diploma - D: 9 credits M: 33 credits P: 3 credits
Access to HE Diploma with minimum of 60 credits with 45 at level 3
Access to HE Diploma in Health or Care – Requires GCSE Maths/Science and English C/4 if not included in Access Diploma.
Scottish Higher - BBBC
Must include Higher English or Essay based subject plus National 5 Maths or Application of Maths or SQCF level 5 Numeracy PLUS National 5 in a science subject at C or above
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 28 points
IB Diploma of 28 with specific scores of SL 4 in a science subject and Maths and English A at SL or HL at Grade 5 or English B at SL Grade 6 or HL at Grade 5
Leaving Certificate - Higher Level (Ireland) (first awarded in 2017) - H2, H3, H3, H3
Must include Higher Level English or Essay based subject, plus Ordinary level Maths and a Science at minimum O3/O4
Foundation Apprenticeship (SCQF Level 6) - Pass
Accepted as equivalent to one Higher at grade B as part of the overall grade profile of Highers required for entry. Any essential subjects at Higher should still be achieved in addition to the Foundation Apprenticeship.
