This course is designed to prepare you for the fast-paced and evolving world of contemporary screen performance.
From drama and feature film, to digital content creation, online promotion and social media influencing, you will gain the creative, technical and professional skills required to thrive in today’s screen industries.
You will study within a vibrant, supportive community of diverse creatives, which creates exciting opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration, experimentation and artistic growth.
Our course will include opportunities to work in an industry standard film studio, and be guided by experienced practitioners who bring real-world insight, and offer constructive feedback and professional expertise. You will be encouraged to gain hands-on experience by collaborating with students from our Filmmaking course and engaging with external productions wherever possible. We support you in developing essential networking skills and professional connections.
Designed to reflect the demands of the modern screen industry, this course ensures you graduate with confidence, a strong professional skillset and a compelling portfolio. Year one – You will explore the principles of acting and camera acting techniques. This year focuses on building your understanding of performance essentials, equipping you with the skills to deliver truthful, compelling performances on camera. You’ll develop techniques in script analysis, emotional authenticity, and character development, while learning key screen-specific skills such as hitting marks, maintaining continuity, working with microphones, and adjusting performance for close-ups and wide shots. Alongside vocal and physical control, you’ll gain confidence in auditions, take direction with ease, and collaborate professionally on set, building the resilience and versatility needed to succeed in the screen industry.
Year two – You will refine your craft and respond to a wide range of contemporary performance contexts, from cinematic productions to digital and interactive media. You will collaborate with students from other creative disciplines, producing innovative interdisciplinary projects that reflect real-world creative practices.
Year three – Your final year focuses on professional readiness. Develop an industry-standard showreel and CV, enhance your audition techniques, and explore career pathways in screen performance. The Final Screen Performance module provides a platform to showcase your skills and creativity in a professional quality production, positioning you for success in the industry.

If you are successful in your application an offer will be made to you, if conditional we will ask for between 104 and 120 UCAS tariff points from any combination of A Levels/T Level/Extended Diploma/Foundation Diploma. The expected subjects will depend on the course you are applying for.
All applicants must have GCSE English Language or Literature at Grade 4/Grade C or above, or English Functional Skills Level 2 at Pass.
Examples of work
Our BA (Hons) Acting for Screen course is about working with screens in all their forms so we are keen to see how you can perform in any of these settings. We would like you to record and upload a video to YouTube, Vimeo or Weibo. The video should be made up of one or more solo performances of up to three minutes in total. The performed pieces may range from scenes from existing TV or cinema in any dramatic form or may be self-written as drama or as influence pieces designed for social media. You will need to state or caption each performance piece so that we can identify your source.
English
You’ll need to have passed GCSE English Language or English Literature at Grade 4/Grade C or above, or English Functional Skills Level 2 at Pass. For mature students, an Access to Higher Education qualification in art and design will also be acceptable to demonstrate English language ability.
Currently studying a Foundation Diploma in Art & Design?
If you are currently studying a Foundation Diploma in Art & Design, you will have already achieved level 3 qualifications which carry UCAS tariff points. When considering your application, we will, collate your achieved tariff points with those you are predicted. You will also need a GCSE grade 4/ Grade C or above in English Language or English Literature or equivalent, or Functional Skills level 2 at a pass.
