Course summary

Our BA (Hons) Public Services Management (Top-Up) degree is designed to provide the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical ability to accelerate your progression towards the supervisory level. Converting your existing HND or Foundation Degree into a full BA (Hons), this course seeks to enhance your abilities and broaden your understanding of industry processes. Studying various modules, including Strategic Management, Disaster Management, and Public Relations, you will acquire a firm grounding in the concepts of public service management and its position within the modern workplace. This course emphasises work-based opportunities and allows you to apply your academic knowledge to practical tasks.

The BA Honours Top-Up Degree in Public Services Management will:

• Provide a broad and integrated study of management within the public services.

• Provide practical experience and transferable skills that will support career development with a view to either gaining employment in a supervisory or management role or gaining promotion from a current supervisory or management role.

• Develop high-level employability skills and personal learning and thinking skills.

• Provide progression to a Master’s Degree qualification in a related public services and management or business subject area.

Modules

Year 1 Modules: Research Proposal, Dissertation, Strategic Management, Disaster Planning & Management, Social Psychology in the Public Services Marketing Communications.

Assessment method

The programme uses a variety of assessment techniques to ensure that you can demonstrate the range of learning outcomes. Subject knowledge and understanding is assessed through examinations, coursework essays, coursework reports, individual or group presentations, written evaluations, debates and posters will be used as other forms of assessment. These also assess a range of transferable skills, including confidence in academic written communication.
