Course summary

Why Animation?
Our Animation degree prepares you to thrive in a fast-changing industry, equipping you with practical skills and creative freedom to pursue your own career path. You’ll work on live projects and placements with industry partners such as the BBC, Aardman, Rumpus and Reflective Films, building a professional portfolio that helps you stand out.

Taught by practising animators with experience on projects for DreamWorks, Channel 4, ITV and Sony, you’ll learn using industry-standard software including Maya, TVPaint, Toon Boom Harmony, Adobe Creative Suite and Wacom Cintiqs. You’ll also have opportunities to network and showcase your work at festivals and studios in the UK and abroad, including the Annecy International Animated Film Festival (additional costs may apply, see course web page for details).

Our course has been recognised for excellence, scoring 100% for academic support and 97% for teaching satisfaction in the National Student Survey 2025.

Modules

Consisting of 80% practice and 20% theory, this course is built around workshops and portfolio development. You'll also work on a variety of live projects. This year, the animation team are working with Annecy Council in France to develop animation in support of its tourism promotion. Working in our new animation studio, you'll be trained to use the latest animation equipment, including the latest Adobe Suite, Maya, TVPaint, Wacom Pro and Cintiq tablets.
