Course summary

The MSci Applied Biomedical Science (NHS placement) is a five-year degree, with a year on placement in the NHS.

You’ll gain the practical skills, knowledge and lab experience needed to work in labs and hospitals across the NHS and private sector.

By studying an integrated course, you’ll start at undergraduate level and graduate with a Masters-level qualification.

WHY THIS COURSE

The MSci Applied Biomedical Science (NHS placement) gives you key knowledge and modern strategies to diagnose and treat the human immune system, pathogenic and non-pathogenic bacteria, haematology and blood transfusion, cell pathology and mechanisms or neurological diseases.

In Year One, you’ll participate in Science Week at Public Health England (PHE) in Colindale. In Year Two, you can visit hospitals in the Eastern Region and beyond.

You’ll spend your third year on placement within the NHS, spending time with NHS professionals to improve your laboratory skills and develop your understanding of the different career paths in this sector. You’ll also be able to complete your Year Three research project while on placement, supervised by highly experienced NHS professionals.

In Year Three of your undergraduate studies, you’ll attend our Biomedical Employability Day and have the chance to contribute to the IBMS Congress.

By integrating Masters study, you’ll fast-track your degree and complete your Final Year in nine months, when a regular MSc usually takes twelve months.

You’ll graduate on a fast-tracked path to a career in the NHS as a biomedical scientist or medical researcher.
