Course summary

Are you interested in the science behind flying? Maybe you are curious about aircraft design and manufacturing. Leading researchers in aviation teach our course to provide you with the skills and advanced knowledge needed to work in this exciting sector.

Our department has links with companies including:

  • Rolls-Royce Aerospace

Industry links will provide you with placement opportunities for real world learning. Our teaching facilities and regular guest lecturers will give you a fantastic insight into the growing aerospace industry.

Learning on this course includes hands-on integrating projects throughout your studies. Your learning will cover topics in:

  • flight physics

  • airframe

  • systems

Your final year will allow you to tailor your learning through a variety of specialist modules, such as technical and management topics. You will also complete an in-depth final project, to prepare you to enter industry.

Our four-year MEng course is the preferred route to achieving Chartered Engineer status. It will give you a deeper understanding of the role of aerospace engineering compared to our BEng course.

Maths and either Physics (preferred) or Further Maths as a 2nd subject, or Maths with any two of the following: Chemistry, Biology, Design, Electronics. Excluding General Studies, Critical Thinking, Citizenship Studies, CIE Global Perspectives and Research, CIE Thinking Skills.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016)

The BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma is not accepted for this course. Applicants should apply for the relevant BEng course.

Access to HE Diploma - Not accepted

Scottish Higher - AAAAB

This qualification is only acceptable when combined with Advanced Higher grades AA including Mathematics and Physics

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Diploma (first teaching from September 2016)

Applicants should apply for the relevant Beng course.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate (first teaching from September 2016)

BTEC only accepted when National Extended Certificate/ BTEC Subsidiary Diploma D combined with A*A in A Level Maths, and Physics/Further Maths

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 36 points

Including Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches - 6 at Higher Level or 7 at Standard Level or Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation – 6 at Higher Level only (plus Physics at Higher or Standard Level). OR 766 in 3 Higher Level subjects including Maths and Physics

Extended Project - A

If you have already achieved your EPQ at grade A you will automatically be offered one grade lower in a non-mandatory A level subject. If you are still studying for your EPQ you will receive the standard course offer, and an alternative offer, with a condition of one grade lower in a non-mandatory A level subject if you achieve an A grade in your EPQ. If you qualify for a contextual offer, your EPQ will be taken into consideration and the appropriate adjustment will be made to your offer. Please note that if you qualify for an enhanced contextual offer, your EPQ will not be taken into consideration as we are unable to make any further adjustments to your offer.

Cambridge International Pre-U Certificate - Principal - D3, D3, M1

Including D3 in Mathematics and D3 in either Physics (preferred) or Further Maths as a second subject, or Mathematics with any two of the following: Chemistry, Biology, Design, Electronics.

GCSE/National 4/National 5

GCSE requirements for all applicants - English grade C/4 or equivalent

T Level

A level mathematics also required. For applicants with T Level qualifications without A level mathematics the Foundation Year (H100) is recommended.

European Baccalaureate - 85% overall including 8.5 in Mathematics 5 and 8.5 in either Physics (preferred) or Further Maths as a second subject, or Mathematics with any two of the following: Chemistry, Biology, Design, Electronics,
