Our part-time master's-level CPD units inApproaches to Mental Health Theory are aimed at mental health and healthcare professionals who want to stay up to date with the latest research and other developments within contemporary mental health services.
Our courses have been designed to enhance your knowledge and skills in current complex issues in mental health, and include:
Critical Decision Making in Mental Health Practice
The Role of the Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP)
Applied Psychiatry
Applied Mental Health Law
Best Interest Assessor
The focus of the units is on mental health, with emphasis on the integration of mental health issues, psychiatry and mental health law in multi-disciplinary teams from a social perspective.
The lecturers will reflect this multi-disciplinary approach and will include psychiatrists, lawyers, psychologists, nurses and social workers, as well as service users and carers.
You will also learn how to translate research insights into practice.
We require an undergraduate degree (minimum Lower Second) or equivalent alternative qualifications, for example a DipSW (Diploma in Social Work) qualification. You must hold a recognised professional qualification in social work, nursing, occupational therapy or psychology and be one of the following:
-A social worker registered with Social Work England
-A first level nurse, registered in Sub-Part 1 of the Nurses' Part of the Register maintained under article 5 of the Nursing and Midwifery Order 2001
-An occupational therapist registered in Part 6 of the Register
-A chartered psychologist who is listed in the BPS Register if Chartered Psychologists and who holds a practicing certificate issued by the society.
