Course summary

Gain sought-after skills in applied mathematics, programming, statistics and data analysis.

This course is for you if you have an analytical mind, enjoy visualising and interpreting data and thrive on a challenge. You'll learn how to use your mathematical skills to formulate problems and discover patterns, and apply these techniques to analyse data from many different sectors.

Computing is an essential tool in data science and you'll develop strong programming skills with the ability to implement mathematical algorithms on large data sets. You’ll learn how data science is used in a wide range of industries and gain an understanding of machine learning and artificial intelligence at the cutting-edge of data science.

All of our courses are flexible and allow for a wide choice of units after year one. You may switch between Mathematics and Mathematics and Statistics at any stage during year one, while switches to or from Mathematics, Statistics and Data Science can be done at the end of year one if you obtain a sufficiently high mark.

Typical Offer: A*A*A in three A levels including A* in Mathematics and A in a quantitative subject. If you are studying Further Mathematics as one of your A level subjects, our typical offer is instead: A*AA or A*A*B in three A levels including A* in Mathematics and B in Further Mathematics. Contextual Offer: A*AB in three A levels including A* in Mathematics, A in a second quantitative subject. If you are studying Further Mathematics as one of your A level subjects, our contextual offer is instead: A*BB in three A levels including A* in Mathematics and B in Further Mathematics. Alternative offers with additional study: A*AA or A*A*B in three A levels including A* in Mathematics, A in a quantitative subject plus additional study - please see the course pages on our website. Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - D*D*D

D*D*D in the BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (RQF) plus A* in A level Mathematics. You must be studying A level Mathematics alongside your BTEC qualification. We are able to consider BTEC qualifications in Engineering, IT or Computing.

Access to HE Diploma - Not accepted

Scottish Advanced Higher - AA

AA in two Advanced Highers including Mathematics and a second quantitative subject. We make offers based on Advanced Highers. You will typically be expected to have completed five Scottish Highers and your grades in these will be considered as part of your application. We prefer applicants who have achieved AAAAA in their Highers.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 36 points

Typical Offer: 36 points overall and either 7, 7, 6 in three Higher Level subjects including 6 in Mathematics: Analysis & Approaches or 7, 6, 6 or 7, 7, 5 in three Higher Level subjects including 7 in Mathematics: Analysis & Approaches. Mathematics: Analysis & Approaches is required at Higher Level. We cannot consider Mathematics: Applications & Interpretations for this course. Contextual Offer: 36 points overall and 7, 6, 5 in three Higher Level subjects including 6 in Mathematics: Analysis & Approaches.

AQA Level 3 (Foundation) Technical Level (360 glh) - Not accepted

GCSE Requirements:

GCSE English Language or Literature grade 4 or C (or equivalent from English language category C)

English language requirements Category C You will normally need one of the following: IELTS: 6.5 overall with no less than 6.0 in all components The Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic): 62 with no less than 59 in any element Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE): 176 with no less than 169 in all elements Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE): 180 with no less than 169 in all elements TOEFL IBT: 90 overall with a minimum 21 in all 4 components If you studied for UK qualifications in English Language or English Literature, make sure you have the required grades for this course. If you studied for English language qualifications from another country, make sure you have the required grades for this course.
