Course summary

Acting for Screen and Devised Performance is an innovative, intensive actor training programme designed to give you the skills to perform, develop, and make your own work across live performance, digital media, audio and screen. Over three years, you will explore a range of performance practices, with emphasis on contemporary and co-created methodologies, alongside training in digital and broadcast media.

As well as the core disciplines of acting, voice, and movement, you will engage with emerging performance technologies, equipping you with a versatile and transferable skill set. The course is designed to foster independent creative thinking, ensuring that you graduate ready to shape the future of the performing arts industries.

Course Breakdown

Year 1
Your first year focuses on building a strong foundation in performance skills and theoretical understanding.
• Core training in acting techniques with a diverse range of global and inclusive methodologies
• Introduction to voice and movement
• Scene study and character exploration
• Introduction to performance-making and ensemble work
• Contextual studies in theatre and performance history

Year 2
Building on your foundation, you will expand your skills and apply them in a range of performance contexts.
• Advanced acting methodologies, with further emphasis on ensemble and devising
• Development and application of key skills in voice and movement
• Performance projects in contemporary and experimental theatre
• Training for screen, voice-over, and digital performance including motion capture
• Development of your skills in writing, editing, filming and producing
• Industry preparation, including audition technique and entrepreneurship
• Experiment with performance practices which may include stand-up comedy, drag, and spoken word

Year 3
Your final year focuses on professional development and preparing for industry entry.
• Public performances in professional venues working with leading industry professionals
• Forming a performance company to produce a live or digital output which can be developed after graduation
• Screen acting and voice-over techniques
• Professional preparation, including showreel development and industry networking
• Independent research project
• London Showcase for agents and casting professionals
