Course summary

Prepare yourself thoroughly for a rewarding career in the IT industry. Explore systems architecture, programming design, coding, platform technologies, software engineering and more on this fast-paced and wide-ranging Computing degree.

This practical computing course focuses on software development for mobile, desktop and web. You'll explore systems architecture, programming design, platform technologies, software engineering and more. You’ll learn to construct effective, robust, and maintainable software solutions.

Computing graduates are always in high demand

Speakers from the computing industry regularly give guest lectures. Presentations and lectures from industry professionals take place throughout, but especially in third and fourth years. This means you'll get plenty of real-world contact to help learn how to put your expertise into practice.

During fourth year you can learn about Cloud Computing with content from Amazon Web Services, and we'll support you in getting your AWS certification if that's your plan.

Graduate with confidence and skills

The course changes as fast as technology does, so we make sure you're always up-to-date. In an industry where new hardware, software and production technologies are emerging at breakneck speed, our computing graduates - who can apply creativity to existing and future problems - are always in high demand.

Potential careers include software developers/testers, web developers, system analysts, technical consultants or academia.

Abertay University is an Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Education, recognised by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) – part of GCHQ.

The course is in the UK Top 5 for Teaching & Course Satisfaction (Guardian University Guide 2023) and scored an impressive 90% for Academic Support in the 2022 National Student Survey.
