Course summary
Learn how to solve real world challenges and keep the world moving on our MEng Mechanical Engineering with Industrial Year. With real workplace experience and expertise, you’ll begin your journey to becoming a Chartered Engineer.
Prepare for roles such as designing, manufacturing, installing and testing anything from nanoscale robots to spacecraft. You’ll learn to tackle engineering challenges and to play a leading role in building a sustainable future. Explore and enhance career options and spend a year working in industry.
From mechanics and computing to sustainable energy, you’ll learn the essentials then specialise before enjoying a year on placement. You’ll be able to attend lectures on industrial design projects from companies such as Rolls-Royce and Jaguar Land Rover.
Benefit from learning in our state-of-the-art building with Design Centres and the Makerspace where you’ll apply your new skills in a practical training facility. You can even join student activity teams to design, build and race cars in global competitions. You’ll work alongside students in other engineering disciplines, so you graduate with interdisciplinary experience.

UCAS Tariff - Not accepted
A level - AAA
A level Mathematics (Further Mathematics and Physics are not required but are advantageous).
General Studies not accepted.
Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016)
Not considered unless A level Maths also taken.
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 32 points
6,6,6 at Higher Level to include Mathematics with a minimum of 32 points overall.
Welsh Baccalaureate - Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate (last awarded Summer 2024)
Accepted in place of a non-required A level with the equivalent grade.
Cambridge International Pre-U Certificate - Principal
Accepted in place of A levels with the following grade equivalencies: D2 = A*; D3 = A; M2 = B. Combinations of A levels and Principle subjects are accepted. NB required subjects must be offered (see A level Section)
